Part of the Postwar Celebration Series, the original #54 Ballast Tamper first handled Maintenance of Way duties on O gauge railroads of the 1950s and 1960s. This self-propelled unit cruises at normal speed to a trouble spot on your line. A track actuator triggers the unit slowing its speed while the six tampers pop up and down. When the unit passes the actuator again the tamping action halts and restores the car to normal speed.
